About us

We are Richard, Marcel, and Mark. It’s a Present! began with the dream of brothers Richard and Marcel, who had fantasized about having their own shop since they were little: doing all the buying, decorating, and decision-making themselves. How fun would that be! By now, Mark is also part of the team, and we run It’s a Present! the three of us.

Dordrecht
The time had finally come. In August 2011, Marcel plucked up the courage and not only launched the online webshop but also opened the first physical It’s a Present! The shop was located on the Voorstraat in Dordrecht. The choice for Dordrecht was simple: we were looking for a location in a beautiful historic city, and naturally, there shouldn't be any similar shops there yet. Rental prices in Dordrecht were still affordable, and we soon found our dream premises. In 2011, our dream became reality.

Utrecht, Lijnmarkt 16
When we were given the opportunity in February 2013 to take over a gift shop right in the center of Utrecht, we didn't have to think about it for long. The super beautiful building, with three floors and a view of the Dom tower, became our second shop in no time! Business at the Utrecht shop was going well, but this obviously involved a lot of work. We noticed that the revenues in Dordrecht were not huge and the travel time was starting to take its toll. We chose to focus entirely on our shop in Utrecht and, with heavy hearts, closed our first location in Dordrecht.

Amsterdam, Gasthuismolensteeg 4
After we had everything running smoothly in Utrecht for a while, the itch started again in 2015. Maybe a second shop in the capital would be nice? Since the reactions to our shop in Utrecht were very positive, we decided to look further. A shop in Amsterdam, in one of the nicest shopping areas in the Netherlands, was soon found. In 2015, we opened a second It’s a Present! in the famous ‘9 Streets’ (9 Straatjes) in Amsterdam!

Amsterdam, Haarlemmerstraat 25
Two years after opening the shop in the ‘9 Streets’, a second property in Amsterdam came our way. The beautiful and large space was located on the Haarlemmerstraat: a unique opportunity we couldn't pass up. In April 2017, the third shop was a fact.

Amsterdam, Kloveniersburgwal 44
In January 2020, we once again received an opportunity to open a new shop in Amsterdam. The magnificent and large building is located in the Red Light District, just around the corner from the Dam streets. With great enthusiasm, we opened our fourth shop in February!

Rotterdam, Witte de Withstraat 5
Although Rotterdam had been on our wish list for a long time, there was only one street where we really wanted to be: the Witte de Withstraat. In November 2020, in the middle of the corona pandemic, a beautiful property finally became available there. Although it was a nerve-wracking decision, we seized our chance and made the best of it! When the shop opened its doors in December 2020, the rave reviews were fantastic. Waiting for the right property was definitely worth it, and Rotterdam had gained a beautiful gift shop.

Utrecht, Jacobskerkhof 50
In March 2023, we went looking for a central location where we could store all our stock and distribute it to all the shops. But we preferred not to end up in an industrial estate. Fortunately, we found a beautiful building right in the center of Utrecht, right next to De Bijenkorf. Upstairs we have a spacious shop and office, and in the basement is our warehouse for all branches. From here, we also ship all orders from our webshop.

You can find original gifts at It’s a Present!
What does It’s a Present! actually stand for? Our idea is that you should be able to find the nicest gifts for everyone – and we mean really everyone – in our shops! All items in the diverse range of It’s a Present! therefore have one clear goal: they must be original.

We only buy products that we like ourselves, which is why our collection consists of an enormously diverse range of brands and items from all over the world. We scour many a fair, city, and the internet to find the nicest and most unique gifts. We hope that you – and your sister, brother, father, mother, uncle, aunt, cousin, friend, or partner – will find the perfect gift at It’s a Present!
